Double eccentric high performance butterfly valve featuring bi-directional bubble-tight sealing, high-frequency cycling durability, ultra-low leakage and fugitive emissions, with wafer, flanged, and lug end connections to meet diverse piping requirements.
Product Description
The double eccentric high-performance butterfly valve is a quarter-turn isolation and control valve engineered for demanding industrial applications that require higher pressure ratings, elevated temperatures, and extended service life beyond the capabilities of standard centerline designs. Its defining feature is the double offset geometry: the stem axis is offset from both the disc sealing plane (first eccentricity) and the pipe centerline (second eccentricity). This dual-offset arrangement causes the disc to cam away from the seat almost immediately upon opening, eliminating continuous rubbing contact between the disc and seat throughout most of the travel. The result is dramatically reduced seat wear, lower operating torque, and a significantly longer operational lifespan.
Equipped with a resilient or metal-reinforced seat (such as reinforced PTFE, RPTFE, stainless steel, or Inconel), the double eccentric butterfly valve delivers tight shut-off in high-pressure and high-temperature services. It is the preferred choice for oil & gas pipelines, steam systems, power generation, petrochemical processing, LNG terminals, and other critical industrial applications where reliability and performance are paramount.
Key Features
- Double Offset Cam-Action Design:The two-axis eccentric geometry ensures the disc lifts off the seat within the first few degrees of rotation, minimizing friction and wear. This cam-action principle extends seat life by up to 3–5 times compared to conventional centerline valves and maintains consistent sealing performance over thousands of cycles.
- High-Frequency Cycling Durability: Engineered to withstand rapid and repeated actuation without degradation of sealing integrity. The non-rubbing disc-seat interaction, reinforced stem bearings, and fatigue-resistant seat materials enable reliable performance in high-cycle applications such as batch processing, automated switching systems, and emergency shut-down (ESD) services, with design life exceeding 500,000 cycles under rated conditions.
- Ultra-Low Leakage for Vacuum & Hazardous Gas Service: The precision-lapped disc edge combined with an energized metal or soft seat achieves an extremely low leakage rate (≤ 1×10⁻⁶ mbar·L/s helium leak rate), meeting the stringent requirements of high-vacuum systems and toxic, flammable, or hazardous gas handling. Compliant with API 598, ISO 5208 Rate A, FCI 70-2 Class VI, and TA-Luft (German Clean Air Technical Instructions) fugitive emission standards, ensuring environmental safety and personnel protection.
- High Pressure & Temperature Capability: Rated up to Class 600 (PN100) and operating temperatures from −196 °C to +600 °C (depending on seat and body materials), making it suitable for steam, hot oil, cryogenic, and other severe service conditions.
Bubble-Tight Bi-Directional Shut-Off: The precision-machined disc edge and engineered seat profile provide zero-leakage sealing in both flow directions, compliant with API 598, ISO 5208, and FCI 70-2 (Class VI) standards. - Fire-Safe Construction: Available with metal-to-metal secondary sealing and fire-safe certification per API 607 / ISO 10497, ensuring safe operation even in the event of soft seat degradation during a fire emergency.
- Low Torque & Smooth Operation: The reduced disc-to-seat contact area during travel translates to significantly lower operating torque, enabling the use of smaller, more cost-effective actuators and gear operators.
- Robust Body & Disc Materials: Body and disc available in carbon steel (WCB), stainless steel (CF8/CF8M), duplex steel, alloy steel, and special alloys (Monel, Hastelloy) to resist corrosion and erosion in aggressive media.
- Versatile Seat Options: Choose from reinforced PTFE, RPTFE, PEEK, stainless steel, Stellite-overlay, or Inconel seats to match specific media compatibility, temperature, and leakage class requirements.
- Multiple End Connections: Offered in wafer, lug, and flanged (raised face / ring-type joint) configurations conforming to ASME B16.5, EN 1092-1, and JIS standards for seamless integration into existing piping systems.
- Automation & Control Ready: Standard ISO 5211 mounting pad accommodates pneumatic, electric, hydraulic, and electro-hydraulic actuators. Optional positioners, limit switches, and solenoid valves enable full integration into DCS/SCADA control loops.
- Extended Service Life & Low Maintenance: The non-rubbing disc-seat interaction and replaceable seat ring design minimize wear parts and allow in-line seat replacement without removing the valve body, reducing total cost of ownership.
Typical Applications
Oil & gas transmission and refining, steam and power generation (thermal / nuclear), petrochemical and chemical processing, LNG and cryogenic plants, data center cooling loops, high-vacuum and semiconductor manufacturing systems, toxic and hazardous gas handling, marine and offshore platforms, mining and slurry handling, district heating networks, and high-pressure water injection systems.
