LPA17 Segment Ball Valve built around an eccentric, sector-shaped ball segment rather than a full sphere—its offset geometry and shearing edge make it the workhorse for fibrous, abrasive, and solids-laden slurries that destroy conventional trim.
Product Description
Unlike a full-bore ball valve, the segment ball valve employs a partial-sphere (sector) disc mounted off-center on the shaft. As the segment rotates into the seat, its cam action forces the ball edge against the seat ring with increasing interference, producing a tight shutoff without the high breakaway torque of concentric designs.
The wide-open segment profile provides a large, unobstructed flow passage with exceptionally high Cv capacity—often matching or exceeding that of a same-size butterfly valve—while the contoured notch geometry delivers near-equal-percentage throttling with rangeability up to 100:1. This combination of high-capacity flow and precise control in a single valve eliminates the need for separate isolation and control devices.
The leading edge of the segment acts as a guillotine, slicing through pulp fibers, stringy rags, and entrained solids on every stroke—preventing the buildup that plugs globe or butterfly valves.
Flow characteristic is near-equal-percentage with rangeability up to 100:1. Seat options: reinforced PTFE (≤ 200 °C), PEEK (≤ 260 °C), or metal-to-metal with Stellite overlay (≤ 425 °C). Body: WCB, CF8M, or duplex A182 F51. Sizes DN 25–DN 500, Class 150 / 300.
Key Features
- Eccentric cam action – Offset shaft geometry multiplies seating force at the final degrees of closure while keeping running torque low.
- Self-scouring shear edge – Segment tip cuts through fibers and soft solids each stroke; seat stays clean without external flushing.
- High-capacity flow control – Wide-open segment profile delivers Cv values comparable to butterfly valves, enabling high-volume throughput in a compact envelope; one valve handles both isolation and modulating duty.
- Metal or soft seat swap – Same envelope accepts elastomeric or hard-faced seats for temperature and abrasion upgrades.
- Blowout-proof stem & anti-static continuity – Standard per API 6D / ISO 10497.
- ISO 5211 top pad – Direct-coupled pneumatic, electric, or hydraulic quarter-turn actuator mounting.
Typical Applications
- Pulp & paper: stock preparation, white water, broke systems
- Mining: tailings, cyclone underflow, thickener feed
- Sugar & starch mills: juice, massecuite, molasses lines
- Municipal sludge and screened wastewater
- Viscous chemical slurries (TiO₂, calcium carbonate, fly-ash)
- Biomass and wood-chip transfer with entrained bark
- Economical high-flow steam flow control
